Cycling Nutrition Workshops

/ Health & Fitness

Feeding your body with the best energy drinks and nutrients ensures you are at your cycling best! Magna Vitae focus on two special sessions, being organised by nutritionist Marko Humphrey.

Marko, is an Associated Registered Nutritionist and consultant with the Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure and Culture. He is running the two workshops in July – as enthusiasts enjoy the latter stages of the 105th Tour de France.

“With the world-famous race ensuring cycling is in many people’s minds. I thought it would be a good idea to run some fun but really informative workshops on what people should eat to get the best out of their cycle exercise. Whether it is intense hard work, or just for fresh air and enjoyment,” said Marko.

Marko runs regular courses and sessions in the East Lindsey community as well as in our venues in Skegness, Horncastle, Mablethorpe and Louth.

And, he is aware, when taking part in exercise like cycling people often do not consider just how what they consume impacts on their health and wellbeing.

“Of course, what you need to eat, and drink, does depend on the intensity you are putting in. We will be looking at the best way to fuel your body for both leisure cycling, and the hard, high-powered activity that we often see in the hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds at this time of the year.”

Using basic ingredients and what Marko calls ‘normal’ foods, he will whizz up some quick and easy recipes for people to try. As well as discussing things like energy drinks for cyclists and appropriate Gels.

“For example, some of the energy drinks are very good. But you can get back to very good basics with simple diluted fruit juice,” he advised.

The sessions are on Tuesday17th and 24th July, at Louth’s Meridian Leisure Centre in the first-floor studio. They start at 7.45pm until 9.30pm and are free to all Magna Vitae members or £5.00 to MV card holders.

Remember, if you live within travelling distance of one of Magna Vitae’s fitness suites, just ask at reception for an MV card. An MV card entitles you to money off all pay-as-you-go activities.
