Get yourselves into a regular exercise routine

/ Leisure

REGULAR Meridian gym user Tracy Crick is urging other women to take heed of medical facts – get yourselves into a regular exercise routine.

Tracy, 53, is encouraging other women in their 50s to undertake some weight-bearing exercise. Tracy’s weight-training takes her to Louth’s Meridian Leisure Centre almost daily and she would like to see more people join her.

“It is extremely important for women especially in their 50s to take part in a weight-bearing activity,” explained the mother-of-three, who lives in the town.

“As you get older you are not building any more calcium and so your bones are at risk of becoming weaker, therefore you need to get active and make yourself stronger,” she adds.

While Tracy likes to tone-up to have more muscle, she is keen to say that does not have to be the case for everyone, and just moderate or gentle training will do the trick – allowing bones to strengthen.

A former cyclist, arthritis has led to Tracy rethinking her exercise routines – and now she loves the gym.

“I like to have muscle but that does not have to be the case and I would say to any woman that some weight-bearing exercise is very important. It is very good for your mental health too.”
