With self-employment and home working on the rise, a growing number of people may find themselves more isolated.

Couple that with not running up and down office stairs, not dashing to and from the car to work, or walking for a sandwich at lunchtime, and their lifestyle can also become less healthy. Liz Scothon, 46, of Louth joined Meridian Leisure Centre recently – for those very reasons.

As she was expertly guided through her first few days in the fitness suite by Lifestyle Consultant Laura White, she explained:

“I just did not want to be out of breath quite so much. I have always walked, and I enjoy swimming and cycling, but needed more especially with me working from home,” she said.

Before letting Liz free on the equipment, Laura ensured she devised a bespoke programme for her – taking into account Liz’s slight back problems: “Of course, the programme will then be looked at again, as Liz wants to do more. It is about talking to the new members and making sure you know what they wish to achieve,” said Laura.

Liz has already signed onto Laura’s Pilates course, and is looking forward to giving the new Les Mills virtual classes a go: “I am really looking forward to giving those a try,” she added.
