SPORTING pair Pete and Gill Tindall are a couple well known to all at Louth’s Meridian Leisure Centre.
And on Valentine’s Day, we discover how a secret to their marriage success is pitching themselves against each other on either side of a tennis or badminton net – in fact, you would say they are the perfect match, both on and off the court!
Pete and Gill are our special February 14th couple – and they tell their story to other Magna Vitae friends today, to encourage more partners to get themselves out of their armchairs and take up a sport together.
“There is no doubt that enjoying sport has made us a happier couple, and a happy family,” they both agree, as they take a break from the Over 45s special sessions at Meridian.
The Over 45s sessions take place twice a week, with options to play a variety of sports including badminton, table tennis, short mat bowls and new-age kurling – with a break for refreshments.
“If there are couples out there who want something to do, then come along and try it with us – it makes for a healthy relationship and a healthy you,” adds Gill.
Gill and Pete first met back in 1965 when Gill, a teenager, was working in Great Carlton as a nanny. Pete was involved in the village youth club and played tennis in the grounds of the Vicarage. Gill was mentioned to him, he gave her a lift to the youth club and she then joined in the tennis games. The rest is history and they were married in Lincoln four years later.
Sport stayed with the couple – they are both keen badminton players and Gill is still involved with the Louth Badminton Club. Their three children, Stephen, Susan and Donna all followed suit – playing at county level.
But as they continue to enjoy sport together – the question is, do they ever fall out on court!!
“No, we are not too bad, neither us are sore losers!”, laughs Gill!
