Richards Guide Part Two

/ Health & Fitness

Richard, our Lifestyle Consultant, recently gave us some first-timers equipment recommendations. Now he takes a look at some of the great kit that he advises is brilliant for people who want to step up a level.

The Cross Trainer: Here we are stepping it up, although again the totally adjustable control system means it can be enjoyed by anyone. Again, this is a cardio vascular workout for the legs and arms, although there is an option to just have your arms as support. There is no ‘jarring’ with this smooth trainer – with a recommendation of a five-to-15-minute stint as part of your routine, which is planned by a fully trained Lifestyle Consultant. This piece of kit is a favourite for 20-year-old Lincoln University student William Coupland: “I come here two or three times every week, fitness is important, and I enjoy it,” he said.

The Excite Stair Climber: This is one of Technogym’s most advanced pieces of equipment and Horncastle is very lucky to have it. As part of his work, Richard advises on GP referrals and as a result would recommend this climber for a total work-out which is particularly good for people who need to work on leg strength, thereby helping to prevent slips, trips and falls. The deep steps can be used front-ways or laterally.

The Skillmill: Another of Technogym’s most advanced pieces of equipment, Richard describes how this is great for anyone with a lower leg problem. For example, an ankle injury can prevent a person from using that area properly – the Skillmill encourages the correct action to be used, therefore helping with rehabilitation. A very versatile piece of kit, it uses your body to take it as fast as you want to go – from a walk, to an overall power and strength routine for the toughest rugby player. “We have not seen him yet, but there is no doubt that Usain Bolt could come in here and run as fast as he wants on this,” said Richard – who invited Usain to pop in any time!

The expanded weights and floor area: The emergence of weight-training as an all-over body workout for all ages has really happened in the last few years, with a bit of a shift from the cardio machines, and Horncastle has matched its popularity with a whole array of the best equipment.
