For retired couple Michael and Joan Rolfe, regular swims and fitness sessions at Louth’s Meridian Leisure Centre mean more to them than just keeping fit.
While watching the weight and keeping in shape is a factor of the couple’s regular visits, there is so much more to it for them both.
Retired police officer Michael, 74, explains, while encouraging others to give it a try.
“You simply don’t get these facilities everywhere – we are very lucky. Both myself and my wife Joan are here most days and we feel so much better after our visits. Visiting the centre is great socially too,”
“Being retired, coming here gets us both out of our four walls, especially in the winter and it is just great for our mental well being and attitude. I would say to anyone, just come in and give it a try. You meet a lot of people in here, and there is always someone to help you.”
“I do understand people who may feel a little uncertain about coming through the door – they think they are going to find strapping young and super fit people here, but it’s not like that at all. Young and old mix well here together, you find yourself in conversation with a lot of new people, making new friends along the way,” adds Michael.
